You can be childlike without being childish. A child always wants to have fun. Ask yourself, 'Am I having fun?'

Before I start this post, I should explain a few key terms used in psychology. They are the three ego states that everyone has within them: the Parent, Adult, and Child. The Parent represent characteristics that enable a person to be an actual parent and also to make quick decisions. The Adult processes data that they need for survival. The Child, the ego state that I will be talking about below, simply harnesses the creativity and intuition that we need to enjoy our lives. In our world, when you think of something being "childish" your brain goes straight to the word immature, right? The word childish has been made into a derogatory term in our social lives. When in psychology, the Child is considered the most valuable part of a persons personality. If a persons child is damaged or forgotten, they would never be the same. The Child ego state, as long as its balanced with the other two, creates the fun times in life, which are the most memorable and cherished. You can be childlike without being childish. A child always wants to have fun. Ask yourself, 'Am I having fun?'

I agree with you! Being childish is stereotyped as being irresponsible and immature, but really, it's the part of you that has fun and carefree moments in life. Although the Parent and Adult are important, the Child is the key to happiness in life.

I have fun all the time, but I never knew it was my child ego. I always thought my child ego came out when I was being immature (like when people tell you to "Grow up"), but now I know that's not true, it comes out when we have fun. However I still wonder how the the other two egos are created (adult and parent) and how they effect us.
