Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world
What constitutes happiness? A big house with every commodity that comes with a luxurious lifestyle? That is what most picture when they think of being happy, but my opinion on happiness is that it is parallel to simplicity. People who have the bare necessities(haha Jungle Book) are more likely to be more happy because they don't know any different. If you were never raised with technology, you learned to live without it, whereas, these days most kids don't know how to look for a book in the library. Also, people that don't have much, and are happy with not having much, don't have greed or envy. Some people grow up without anything other than what they need to live, and those people tend to have respect for what they have, no envy towards others who have more than them. A verse in the song "Imagine" by John Lennon shows how people would live without unnecessary items: Without possessions, people would not have envy towards others. There would be worldwide peace and most everyone would be happy with what they have. Think about this the next time you ask your parent for something just because you saw someone else with it.

Homework. Is it good for us? Do we need it? Read more for my opinion on the matter(read my last post for my opinion on opinions). Is it good for us? Yes. Believe it our not the work we do at home is very benefitial to the learnig process. To obtain knowledge we have to apply ourselves to our work outside of the classroom. By doing this, we learn whether or not we are able to do the things we learned in class. Now that you know this importaint information: DO YOUR HOMEWORK (: Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Opinions shape who we are and what we stand for. Opinions set the stones for our future. With opinions, we are able to have a voice and are also able to so something about issues in the world. If we didn't have opinions, we would all blindly follow what others told us was right. Standing up for ones opinion is completely justified. We all have the right to speak up and share our view on the world. This being said, there is a fine line between speaking up civilly and going out of your way to harm someone or a group of people emotionally or physically just because they don't have the same opinions. Opinions are opinions. They are subjective and based on perspective. A lot of opinions are completely biased, but if it is what a person truly believes, no one can change their mind. But that's just my opinion. I sure that a good amount of people reading this disagree.
Think about it. Are people really born evil? Is it in our genes? Peoples behavior is influenced by their surroundings. If you are born into an adverse environment, you can take it either way: you can learn from the effects of the unfavorable conditions and change your life and mindset for the better, or observe the atrocity's that surround you and end up mimicking that behavior. Although our environment does effect the way we are in the future, we ultimately decide how it will effect us. Here's an example: there are two brothers, fraternal twins. They are raised in an abusive household. Their father abuses their mother and their mother drinks away her pain. One brother, lets call him Andy, sees his mother being abused and understands how it has affects her. Andy vows never to treat a woman like his father treats his mother. In a different manner, the other brother, lets say his name is Greg, has seen his fathers abusive behavior and doesn't know how to deal with it. He could either grow up to become exactly like his father or, more favorably, seek help from someone. The video below explains some of my points, but goes more into facts and evidence and answers the question: Are People Born Good? Before I start this post, I should explain a few key terms used in psychology. They are the three ego states that everyone has within them: the Parent, Adult, and Child. The Parent represent characteristics that enable a person to be an actual parent and also to make quick decisions. The Adult processes data that they need for survival. The Child, the ego state that I will be talking about below, simply harnesses the creativity and intuition that we need to enjoy our lives. In our world, when you think of something being "childish" your brain goes straight to the word immature, right? The word childish has been made into a derogatory term in our social lives. When in psychology, the Child is considered the most valuable part of a persons personality. If a persons child is damaged or forgotten, they would never be the same. The Child ego state, as long as its balanced with the other two, creates the fun times in life, which are the most memorable and cherished. You can be childlike without being childish. A child always wants to have fun. Ask yourself, 'Am I having fun?' |
